Easter Festival Baden-Baden: Kirill Petrenko conducts "Woman Without a Shadow" with the Berlin Philharmonic

For the 10th time, the Berlin Philharmonic will be playing in Baden-Baden, this time under the direction of Kirill Petrenko at the Easter Festival with “Woman without a Shadow”.

When the painter Gustav Klimt covered his murals with gold leaf, Richard Strauss also reveled musically in an opulence so typical of Vienna at that time. His "Die Frau ohne Schatten" (The Woman Without a Shadow) requires no fewer than five Wagnerian heroine voices, not to mention numerous supporting roles. This makes Strauss's fairy tale the prototype of a festival opera. To conjure the effects of this sonic magician, his enormous orchestra also uses five Chinese gongs and a glass harmonica.
