Biography

Momme Hinrichs is a co-founder of the artist duo fettFilm and is one of the defining visual artists of contemporary music theater. His works combine projection, space and music to create impressive, atmospheric stage worlds and have been seen in Paris, Vienna, Dresden, Geneva, Salzburg, Bayreuth and Bregenz, among other places.

In the 2026/27 season, the stage and video artist will, among other things, design Titanic in the Theater Chemnitz , Ariel at the Bühne Baden as well as Le Grand Macabre in a production by Lydia Steier at the Ruhrtriennale. Furthermore, he has numerous credits for taking over successful productions, including Les Contes d'Hoffmann from the Bregenz Festival to the Oper Köln , Jesus Christ Superstar from the Theater Bern to the Staatstheater Cottbus , La fanciulla del West from the Staatsoper Unter den Linden to the Zurich Opera, and Les Contes d'Hoffmann at the Polish National Opera in Warsaw. With Im weißen Rössl, he is responsible for set and costume design for the first time at the Bad Hersfeld Festival, directed by Philipp M. Krenn; he is also designing Rocky at the Bühne Baden .

Highlights of past seasons include Les Contes d'Hoffmann at the BERLIN STATE OPERA On the Town at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Der Rosenkavalier at the Graz Opera, Die verzauberte Stadt at the Aalto Music Theatre Essen, and Jesus Christ Superstar at the Bern Theatre. Previously, Homme Hinrichs directed Mefistofele for the season opening of the Semperoper Dresden , Der Freischütz on Staatstheater Cottbus , Tannhäuser at the Vienna State Opera and The Flying Dutchman at the St. Margarethen Quarry Opera Festival. Further significant works took him to the Grand Théâtre de Genève ( Don Carlos ), the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich ( The Magic Flute ), the Theater an der Wien ( Candide ), the Nuremberg State Theatre ( Jesus Christ Superstar ), the Baden-Baden Easter Festival ( Die Frau ohne Schatten ), and the Opéra national de Paris ( Salome ).
Since the early 2000s, Hinrichs has significantly shaped the development of an immersive visual language on the opera stage as a video designer and scenographer. Together with fettFilm, he established video art as an independent form of expression in music theater. Since 2007, he has continuously expanded his activities as a stage designer and director.
His work has taken him to many important opera houses and festivals, including the Vienna State Opera, the Opéra de Paris, the Semperoper Dresden , the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Theater an der Wien , as well as the festivals in Salzburg, Bayreuth, Bregenz and Baden-Baden. International engagements also took him to North America, China, India and the Middle East.
For his stage and video design of The Flying Dutchman at the Donbass Opera Donetsk, he was awarded the Taras Shevchenko Prize, the highest cultural award in Ukraine, in 2012 together with fettFilm.
