Kirill Petrenko with the Berlin Philharmonic on an Asia tour
On November 3, the Berlin Philharmonic, under the direction of Kirill Petrenko, will embark on a three-week tour of Asia. Traditionally, the orchestra will open its journey with a performance at the Alte Oper Frankfurt , before traveling through South Korea , Taiwan , China , and Japan . A total of 13 concerts in 7 cities are planned, featuring four different programs .
The opening concert in Frankfurt will feature Robert Schumann's Manfred Overture, Op. 115 , Richard Wagner's Siegfried Idyll , and Johannes Brahms' Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 .
Schumann Concerto with Sunwook Kim
Korean pianist Sunwook Kim will perform as soloist in Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54 , on November 7 and 9. Both evenings will conclude with Brahms's First Symphony ; the program will be complemented on November 7 by Wagner's Siegfried Idyll and on November 9 by Schumann's Manfred Overture .
The Schumann program will also be performed on November 12th and 13th in Taipei , on November 16th in Shanghai , on November 22nd in Kawasaki and on November 23rd in Tokyo .
On the following evenings – November 8 in Seoul , November 11 in Taipei , November 15 in Shanghai , November 19 in Tokyo and November 20 in Yokohama – Petrenko and the Berlin Philharmonic will present a contrasting program featuring Leoš Janáček's Lašské tance (Lachian Dances) , Béla Bartók's Suite from "The Miraculous Mandarin" Sz 73 and Igor Stravinsky's ballet Petrushka (revised version from 1947) .
