Tanja Ariane Baumgartner returns to Salzburg with Henze's The Prince of Homburg

Tanja Ariane Baumgartner returns to the Salzburg Festival this summer, taking on the role of the Electress in a concert performance of Hans Werner Henze's * Der Prinz von Homburg* on August 20. Conducted by Ingo Metzmacher and accompanied by the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Baumgartner is part of a top-class cast for this rarely seen performance of Henze's impressive final opera.
Baumgartner is a celebrated artist at the Salzburg Festival and has already performed in highly acclaimed roles there, including as Klytämnestra in Strauss's Elektra and in a concert performance of Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde. Her appearances in Salzburg were widely praised for their compelling dramatic presence; critics described her Klytämnestra described as “engaged and elegant” (The Opera Critic) and highlighted her “magnificent” singing as well as the psychological depth of her interpretation ( neue musikzeitung ).
Looking ahead to a particularly exciting 2026/27 season, Baumgartner's highlights include Brangäne in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde under the direction of ARSIS artist Jaap van Zweden, as well as performances at the Vienna State Opera with ARSIS artist Alexander Soddy. She also returns as Klytämnestra returning to the Zurich Opera House in Strauss's Elektra, he takes on the role of Fricka in Wagner's Das Rheingold at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and interprets this role concert version at the Philharmonie de Paris and at Carnegie Hall.
