PHILIPPE JORDAN

GUSTAV MAHLER YOUTH ORCHESTRA

MAHLER, BARTÓK AND BRUCKNER

AUGUST 19 – SEPTEMBER 1, EUROPEAN TOUR

Philippe Jordan returns to the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra this summer and embarks with the orchestra on a major European tour with performances in important concert halls and at renowned festivals, including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam , the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the Salzburg Festival .

The tour presents two contrasting programs: Mahler's monumental 7th Symphony and a second program that combines Bartók's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta with Bruckner's 4th Symphony . Jordan will conduct the orchestra in a total of ten concerts across Europe.

The tour begins on August 19th at the Bolzano Festival in Bolzano and continues to Salzburg, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Toblach, Eltville am Rhein, and Ravello. It concludes with two concerts at the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Pordenone on August 31st and September 1st .

Jordan has worked closely with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra since his debut with the orchestra in 2006. Over nearly two decades, this artistic partnership has garnered widespread acclaim, including at the BBC Proms, where their joint interpretation was praised as “an outstanding performance…with exemplary clarity of texture” (The Guardian). This year’s tour is a celebration of this long-standing musical connection.
