Joana Mallwitz returns after her groundbreaking Salzburg debut with Così fan tutte

Joana Mallwitz returns to the Salzburg Festival to conduct Così fan tutte , the opera with which she made her acclaimed festival debut in 2020. Christof Loy's production premieres on August 6 and will run until August 29 with the Vienna Philharmonic.
Mallwitz made history in Salzburg as the first woman to conduct a new opera production there. Her debut was hailed by critics as "excellent" (Bachtrack). Her interpretation was praised for "fully exploiting the famous Viennese sound, with refined strings... and elegant portamenti" (Opera Traveller). Since then, she has established herself as a preeminent Mozart interpreter – from her "brilliant" debut at the Metropolitan Opera (The Times) to Mozart programs with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin , which were described by critics as full of “surprises and delights” (Berliner Zeitung).
