Five ARSIS artists will arrive on July 11th for a performance of Wagner's Tristan and Isolde. at the Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier . Jaap van Zweden conducts the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France – a highlight of this year's festival. Joining him are Anja Kampe as Isolde , Kwangchul Youn as King Marke , Iain Paterson as Kurwenal , and Tanja Ariane Baumgartner as Brangäne .
This concert performance unites some of the most renowned Wagner interpreters of our time. On the podium is Jaap van Zweden, who has been setting international standards with his Wagner interpretations for years. His readings are characterized by dramatic tension, sonic transparency, and precise architecture.
The title role will be sung by Anja Kampe, who, since her debuts in Bayreuth, at the Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, and other major European opera houses, has been considered one of the leading Wagnerian sopranos. The British newspaper The Guardian praised her Isolde for her " wonderful musicality," with which she imbues "every phrase with character and real weight of meaning."
With Kwangchul Youn as the king Marke , Iain Paterson as Kurwenal and Tanja Ariane Baumgartner as Brangäne are three artists on stage who have been embodying these roles for years at the most important opera houses in the world.
