Bertrand de Billy returns to London with Le nozze di Figaro
June 4 – July 2, Royal Ballet & Opera More
BERTRAND DE BILLY returns to the Royal Opera House this summer to conduct Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro.
The new production premieres on June 4th and can be seen until July 2nd.
As one of the most distinguished interpreters of the Mozart repertoire, de Billy most recently conducted Idomeneo at the Vienna State Opera, where his interpretation was celebrated as "tightly packed, dramatic and stylish" – characterized by clarity, tension and a fine sense for the changing emotional nuances of Mozart's music.
His return to London follows immediately after The Flying Dutchman at the Vienna State Opera, where he has already appeared as a guest conductor in four productions this season – impressive evidence of his close and ongoing relationship with the house. Critics particularly praised his masterful control of Wagner's score, highlighting how he maintains "the balance between pit and stage with surgical precision." His interpretation, they noted, brought out both the naturalistic moments and the dark, mysterious undercurrents of the opera with equal impact. "The conductor fully grasps the Wagnerian spirit of the work," was the conclusion – coupled with particular praise for the coherence and breadth of his interpretation.
