Allison Oakes can be seen at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos as Elisabeth in Tannhäuser – in the first production of this opera at the house in over three decades.

Max Hoehn's production, with stage designs by Darko Petrovic, draws on visual worlds of 20th-century German media culture and focuses on themes such as power, identity, and illusion.

Oakes, a distinguished Wagner interpreter, was most recently seen as Brünnhilde at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and will be on stage as Isolde at the Hamburg State Opera this summer.

Under the musical direction of Graeme Jenkins, the production premieres on April 23; another performance follows on April 25.
