Thomas Guggeis makes his debut with the Munich Philharmonic

The prelude to Wagner's Liebestrank opera begins with the most famous chord in operatic history, the infamous "Tristan chord," a dissonant harmony that, like a primal cell, influenced all of modern music. Even Richard Strauss could not escape this, neither as an opera composer nor as the creator of over 42 orchestral songs. As a follow-up to last year's Strauss Focus, the Munich Philharmonic presents a selection of his compositions for voice with orchestral accompaniment. Béla Bartók, the founding father of Hungarian modernism, found it difficult to gain a foothold in American exile. His "Concerto for Orchestra" describes his inner conflict between the Old and New Worlds. The young Lower Bavarian conductor Thomas Guggeis , who has been Staatskapellmeister in Berlin since 2020, will conduct for the first time. He will take over as General Music Director of the Frankfurt Opera in the 2023/24 season. (Source: mphil.de )
