Premiere: Kirill Serebrennikov stages "Così fan tutte" at the Komische Oper Berlin

Kirill Serebrennikov's production dissects the emotional states of the two women (Fiordiligi and Dorabella), their coping mechanisms for grief, and the physical desire between two people, making Mozart's masterpiece more sensually accessible than ever before. The feminine "tutte" in the title, literally "that's what all women do(!)", becomes, in Serebrennikov's hands, a universal sequence of images that connects the complexities of attraction, grief, fidelity, and sex in a modern relationship with Mozart's music. The work does not condemn any of the characters but rather allows the audience a profound glimpse into the hearts of four lovers.
The production by Russian director Serebrennikov was filmed in 2018. Opernhaus Zürich , staged via video transmissions from his then house arrest in Moscow and with the support of his long-time collaborators. For the Komische Oper Berlin Così fan tutte forms the prelude to a Da Ponte trilogy, those three operas that Mozart wrote with his outstanding librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte: Così fan tutte , Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni .
