Alexander Soddy: Covent Garden, Vienna State Opera and Berlin State Opera
ALEXANDER SODDY conducts at Europe's leading opera houses. Upcoming highlights include his return to the Royal Opera House Covent Garden with Saint-Saëns' Samson et Dalila (May 13, 19, 22, 26 and 29, and June 3) and performances of the same work at the Berlin State Opera (July 4, 7, 10 and 12).
Alexander Soddy will also return to the Vienna State Opera, where he will conduct the revival of Alexander Raskatov's Animal Farm (June 12, 16, 18 and 23) as well as Mozart's Così fan tutte (June 13, 15, 17 and 19).
This summer's revival of Animal Farm marks the production's first return to Vienna since its acclaimed premiere in 2024, also conducted by Soddy. His interpretation was highly praised by critics, who particularly highlighted how he brought "the intricately crafted, often fragmentary score to life in magnificent colors" while simultaneously "coordinating the overall orchestral sound with all its shrill vocal acrobatics with perfect assurance."
Soddy's earlier performances of Così fan tutte were similarly celebrated. Critics noted that he "always chooses perfectly balanced tempi... finds colors, nuances, and phrasings that create distinct atmospheres for the countless emotional shades of the score, without resorting to affected embellishments or the clichés often found in this opera."
