June 27 – July 8, Berlin State Opera More

The new production of Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio premieres on June 27 at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, with Thomas Guggeis conducting and Michael Laurenz as Pedrillo. Further performances will follow until July 8.

Two years ago, Guggeis and Laurenz collaborated on this work at La Scala, receiving unanimous critical acclaim. Guggeis was particularly praised for "finding the colors, the measured tempi, the right contrasts, the subtleties, the variations, the sweetness of the score... without ever losing sight of the voices on stage," and at the same time "shaping the La Scala orchestra into a sound that can rightly be called Mozartian."

Laurenz, meanwhile, impressed with a "resonant voice, clear phrasing and diction, as well as a pronounced feel for the Mozartian style."
