Maria Bengtsson

Oper Frankfurt - Der Rosenkavalier
The Swedish soprano Maria Bengtsson sang a Marschallin with an almost otherworldly vocal beauty: What magnificent, wonderfully cleanly intoned, floating pianos, phrases of outstanding sonic beauty and unaffected, haunting simplicity. Magnificent.

Deutsche Oper Berlin - Intermezzo
It is admirable that Bengtsson sustains this demanding role without tiring and brings it across the stage in a sophisticated manner in every detail. In addition to her acting, her strengths lie in the elastically placed, silky shimmering high notes. In the endless cantilenas, some of which are written in a stratospheric range, Bengtsson offers pure vocal luxury. The tones flow sul fiato with an almost brazen lightness.
