Biography
Danish tenor Magnus Vigilius “is emerging as a future dramatic tenor in the top league” (Opera Online) and captivates audiences “with his aura of heroism, youth, and innocence, his radiant timbre, his steely high notes, and his dreamlike phrasing” (OperaWorld).

At the start of the 2026/27 season, he will appear in a Wagner Gala with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra under Pietari Inkinen, performing excerpts from Siegfried and Götterdämmerung. Also in Copenhagen, at the Royal Danish Opera, a new production of Saariaho’s Innocence will follow, in which he will take the stage in the role of the Groom. Another new production will take him to the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels as Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos, before he returns to the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing for the revival of Siegfried and a new production of Götterdämmerung. In the summer of 2027, he will also conclude his season in these two roles in Wagner’s The Ring of the Nibelung.
During the 2025/26 season, he returned twice to the role for which he has been celebrated by audiences and critics alike since his role debut: Siegfried. He portrayed the title character of the third part of Wagner’s Ring in a new production at the NCPA in Beijing and at the Wagner Days in Budapest. In Budapest and Caracas, he also made his role debut as Parsifal, and at the Bayreuth Festival, he made his acclaimed role debut as Rienzi. With the Fondazione Haydn di Bolzano e Trento, he also made his role debut in Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex, and at the Malmö Opera he appeared as Lohengrin and Don José (Carmen), and with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra as Doctor Marianus in Mahler’s Eighth Symphony. Other engagements have taken him to Hamburg and on tour throughout his native Denmark, among other places.
Other highlights of recent years include his acclaimed role debut as Siegfried in Brussels and his return to the role at the Sofia Wagner Festival. He sang Walther von Stolzing (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen, the Budapest Wagner Days, and the award-winning “Wagner 22” Festival in Leipzig. As Siegmund (Die Walküre), he has performed at the Zurich Opera House, the Budapest Wagner Days, in Naples, and Helsinki; as Walther von der Vogelweide (Tannhäuser) in Bayreuth; as Erik (The Flying Dutchman) in Prague; as Boris in a production of Káťa Kabanová directed by Calixto Bieito at the Semperoper Dresden, the Komische Oper Berlin, and the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples; and as Tikhon at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège. He sang Albert Gregor (The Makropulos Case) under Karina Canellakis at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Janik (The Diary of One Who Disappeared) at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg.
Magnus Vigilius is the winner of the prestigious Reumert Award for “Singer of the Year” and a prize winner at the International Lauritz Melchior Vocal Competition. He graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, majoring in voice and acting.
