Eve-Maud Hubeaux - new production of Castor et Pollux at the Grand Theater de Geneve
The Grand Théâtre continues its exploration of the French Baroque repertoire with a new production of Jean-Philippe Rameau's opera Castor et Pollux . Following Les Indes galantes (2019) and Atys (2022), this production is once again a collaboration with conductor Leonardo García Alarcón and his Cappella Mediterranea. The rarely performed original version from 1737 will be presented, differing from the revised version of 1754.
Set against the backdrop of a war between two nations, the opera tells the story of the brothers Castor and Pollux. At its heart is Pollux's decision to relinquish his own immortality in favor of his fallen brother. The production is by Romanian choreographer Edward Clug , who is choreographing an opera for the first time.
The cast includes Reinoud van Mechelen (Castor), Andreas Wolf (Pollux), and Sophie Junker (Télaïre). Eve-Maud Hubeaux sings the role of Phébé. The Franco-Swiss mezzo-soprano is a regular at the Grand Théâtre and was last heard there in 2023 as Princess Eboli.
Performances : March 19, 21, 22, 24, 26, 28 and 29, 2026
