Eun Sun Kim makes her debut with the Berlin Philharmonic
This concert demonstrates just how contrasting musical worlds could be at the beginning of the 20th century. Arnold Schoenberg's expressionist monodrama "Erwartung " (Expectation), performed with Tamara Wilson as soloist, presents an innovative and overwhelmingly intense mood, oscillating between fear and hope. In contrast, Sergei Rachmaninoff's late-Romantic Third Symphony, written in American exile, is characterized by a melancholic look back.
