Finnegan Downie Dear - Return Staatskapelle Dresden and Royal Opera House

After his successful debut last year, Finnegan Downie Dear returns to the Staatskapelle Dresden for subscription concerts on October 12, 13 and 14, 2025.
A select concert program that offers a glimpse into the depths of the soul: beginning with Haydn's Symphony No. 44 , nicknamed the "Funeral Symphony," and imbued with seriousness through its somber tone and fugal finale. Thomas Adès' Inferno Suite , which premiered in 2021, takes up the circles of hell in Dante's "Divine Comedy" and transforms them into garish sound images full of fury and abyss. The concert concludes with Dvorak's Cello Concerto , which unites pain and beauty, melancholy and transcendence. The soloist will be Gautier Capucon , one of the leading cellists of his generation.
We are delighted to welcome Finnegan Downie Dear back to the Royal Opera House to conduct Mozart's The Magic Flute .
Following his great success with Alice's Adventures Under Ground, Finnegan now takes on the musical direction of one of the most beloved works in the operatic repertoire. Directed by David McVicar and starring Huw Montague Rendall as Papageno and Chelsea Zurflüh as Pamina. Performances: Oct 23, 28, 30 / Nov 1, 3, 2025
