Biography
Kathleen Kim is a regular guest at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, appearing in a wide variety of roles, including Tytania ( A Midsummer Night's Dream ) under the baton of James Conlon, Olympia ( The Tales of Hoffmann ) and Blondchen ( The Abduction from the Seraglio) under James Levine, Oscar ( Un ballo in maschera ) under Fabio Luisi, and Zerbinetta ( Ariadne auf Naxos ) under Kirill Petrenko. She has also sung Sophie ( Der Rosenkavalier ) under Sebastian Weigle and La Fée ( Cendrillon ) under the baton of Bertrand de Billy in New York. Most recently, she returned to the Metropolitan Opera for a revival of the acclaimed production The Hours , which had celebrated its world premiere there with an illustrious cast.
Kathleen Kim is in high demand at leading international opera houses in the 2026/27 season. She will perform the role of Madame Mao in John Adams' Nixon in China at the Washington National Opera, the Palau de les Arts Valencia, and La Scala in Milan.

Highlights of recent seasons include her return to the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Mother-in-Law in Kaija Saariaho's Innocence , as well as a gala concert with the New York Philharmonic; her acclaimed Violetta (La traviata) at the Korea National Opera and her return to the same house as Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel); her concert role debut as Elvira in I Puritani at the Seoul Arts Center; Lucia di Lammermoor in Montreal; La Fée in Cendrillon at the Opéra de Paris; and the virtuosic role of Madame Mao in Adams' Nixon in China, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel.
In Europe, she has performed at the Bavarian State Opera as Blondchen under Ivor Bolton and as Olympia, a role she also performed at the Liceu in Barcelona, as well as Oscar (Un ballo in maschera) in Brussels, Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos) in Frankfurt, and Tytania (A Midsummer Night's Dream) and Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges at the Glyndebourne Festival.Another focus of her artistic work is contemporary repertoire. Kathleen Kim sang the role of Josephine in the world premiere of Huang Ruo's *An American Soldier* in Saint Louis. She has also performed as Madame Mao in John Adams' * Nixon in China* at the Metropolitan Opera under the composer's baton and at the BBC Proms, among other venues.
Her concert engagements include a concert with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in celebration of Korean independence under the baton of Myung-Wung Chung, with whom she also performed Mahler's Symphonies Nos. 2 abd 8, as well as Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 performed (released by Deutsche Grammophon).
