Adela Zaharia

Worldwide representation (exclusive: Romania)

At the latest since her triumphant successes as Lucia di Lammermoor at the Bavarian State Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, as well as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at Covent Garden London, the Opéra de Paris, the San Francisco Opera and the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, and as the sensational Traviata at the Los Angeles Opera, Romanian soprano and Operalia winner Adela Zaharia has become one of the most important representatives of her field, taking audiences by storm and thrilling the press.

The 2023/24 season begins for Adela Zaharia with her return to the Opéra de Paris as Donna Anna under Alexander Soddy. At the Teatro Real Madrid, with which she is closely associated, she will make a guest appearance as Gilda (Rigoletto). At the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam she will appear as Violetta (La traviata). She will return to the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Lucia di Lammermoor, a role that already brought her stormy acclaim there in 2022/23. She will make her house debut at Oper Frankfurt as Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail). At her home opera house, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, she will make her debut as Julietta (Capuleti e i Montecchi) and interpret her signature roles of Violetta and Lucia.

Highlights of the past seasons were the world premiere of 7 Deaths of Maria Callas by Marina Abramovic under the baton of Yoel Gamzou at the Bavarian State Opera, Donna Anna at the Teatro Real in Madrid as well as her house debut at the Royal Opera House in London. Adela Zaharia caused a sensation with her role debut as Elvira in a new production of I Puritani at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. At the Hamburg State Opera she appeared for the first time as Konstanze (Entführung aus dem Serail).

In the seasons before, Adela Zaharia was already able to give her career important impetus through decisive house and role debuts: she sang Violetta in La Traviata at Los Angeles Opera under James Conlon, after first presenting the role at Deutsche Oper am Rhein, with which she remains associated as a permanent ensemble member, and also making her debut there as Maria Stuarda. In Düsseldorf she also sang Konstanze, Donna Anna, Gilda and the title role in Lange's Snow Queen. She made her debut with Lucia di Lammermoor at the Bavarian State Opera and was immediately invited back as Angelica in Haydn's Orlando Paladino. She made her North American debut successfully as Gilda in Rigoletto at Los Angeles Opera. With the Komische Oper Berlin she made a guest appearance in Japan as Pamina. Concert highlights include her debut at the BBC Proms with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the world premiere of Iain Bell's Aurora, whose mad scene from A Harlot's Progress she presented at the Enescu Festival. A concert of Mozart arias alongside Placido Domingo took her to Prague, as well as guest appearances as soloist with Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Barcelona and Moscow. She made her debuts in Barrie Kosky's production of The Magic Flute at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Edinburgh International Festival and the Grand Theatre Shanghai.

In 2012 Adela Zaharia was awarded the Grand Prix of the Haricleea Darclée International Competition.
